Transamerica Pyramid Fine Art Image

This dramatic, impressionistic image of the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco was the result of eighteen multiple exposures (on a single film frame) during a helicopter flight. The resulting image is a unique and dramatic image of the pyramid building like no other. The image was captured totally on film in the 1980's....well before the advent of Photoshop. I used a Nikon F100 (I think...it was a long time ago...but for sure it was a Nikon 35mm camera). The resulting image, while still recognizable as the Transamerica Pyramid, can also be viewed as some science fiction image of a spacecraft exiting a time warp...or who knows what! This is one of my top 10 favorite images over my 40+ year career as a professional photographer.

Transamerica Pyramid Photography

Over the years I have photographed the Transamerica Pyramid in a variety of ways. The building has always attracted me...I love it's pyramid shape and admire the departure from the normal box-life building shapes that dominate the skyline of so many cities.  The pyramid building was an early move towards the more dramatic buildings that in recent years have begun to dominate the skylines of the world's cities. I also enjoyed shooting from a helicopter...the need for which has almost vanished with the advent of drones. This fine art pyramid photo was the result of my appreciation for both helicopter flights and the unique architecture of the aforementioned pyramid.
