Saana Yemen Skyline At Dusk

This photo of the Old City of Saana, Yemen was photographed from a tall building giving a high angle perspective the the warm glow cast by the cities lights as dusk settles over the scene. The Old City has over 100 mosques and has been continuously living in for over 2,500 years making it one of the oldest capitals in the world. The buildings are richly decorated making them stand out from the dry, desert background and making for a very photogenic city. The people of Yemen, and Saana, are among the most welcoming and warmest I have ever met. Women in Abayas notwithstanding, photography is very easy there with many of the local populace actually asking to have their pictures taken!

Adventure Travel And Vacations In Yemen

Our adventure travel vacation in Yemen was a truly wonderful experience. I was part of a photo tour put on by Jeremy Woodhouse and Luka Esenko, two terrific photographers and travel group leaders. We visited both Yemen and the Island of Socotra, neither of which should be missed! I felt safe the entire time and was impressed with the warmth of the people we  met. We also traveled briefly with Alex Kay Potter, an American photographer living and working in Saana.
